These Chocolate Chip Mason Jar Cookies are not just a treat for the taste buds but also a thoughtful gift or a fun kitchen project. With simple ingredients and a charming presentation, they’re perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the Jar:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Additional Ingredients (to make the cookies):

  • 12 tablespoons (1½ sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract

Creating the Mason Jar Presentation

  1. Layer the Dry Ingredients: For a beautiful, layered effect, add the dry ingredients to your mason jar in the following order:
  • Flour
  • Baking soda and salt
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Brown sugar
  • Granulated White Sugar
  1. Pack Neatly: Use a spoon or a tamper to gently press down each layer to create clean lines and ensure everything fits snugly into the jar.
  2. Seal and Decorate: Once all ingredients are layered, tightly seal the jar with a lid. Add a decorative ribbon and a tag with instructions for making the cookies (see below).

Instructions for Making the Cookies

  1. Prepare Your Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine 12 tablespoons of butter, 1 large egg, and ¾ teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients from the mason jar to the wet mixture. Mix on medium speed until a cookie dough consistency forms.
  4. Scoop and Shape: Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, drop dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  6. Cool and Enjoy: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 1 minute, then transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
