Refrigerator Tea

Refrigerator Tea is the ultimate answer to warm days, busy routines, and the need for something cool and satisfying without a lot of fuss.
Cook Time 12 hours

Ingredients

  • 4 –6 tea bags or 4–6 teaspoons of loose leaf tea in a tea infuser
  • 1 quart 4 cups cold, filtered water
  • Optional add-ins:
  • Fresh lemon or orange slices
  • Fresh mint or basil
  • Berries cucumber slices, or ginger
  • Sweetener: honey simple syrup, agave, or stevia (to taste)

Instructions

  • Choose Your Tea
  • Select your favorite tea type: black, green, white, oolong, herbal, or rooibos. For a stronger flavor, use more tea bags or a longer steep time. Black and herbal teas work especially well with fruit add-ins.
  • Fill Your Container
  • In a quart-sized mason jar, pitcher, or any food-safe container, add 4–6 tea bags (or loose leaf tea in a mesh infuser). Pour in 4 cups of cold, filtered water.
  • Customize the Flavor (Optional)
  • Add extras like citrus slices, fresh herbs, or berries to infuse subtle flavors while it steeps. You can also sweeten the tea now, or wait and adjust it to taste after it’s brewed.
  • Steep in the Refrigerator
  • Cover the container and refrigerate for 6 to 12 hours.
  • For lighter teas (white, green), 6–8 hours is ideal.
  • For stronger teas (black, herbal), go up to 12 hours for full flavor.
  • Strain and Serve
  • Remove the tea bags or strain out the loose tea and fruit/herbs. Taste and add sweetener if desired.
  • Store and Enjoy
  • Keep the tea refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 4 days. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh fruit or herbs if desired.

Notes

Tips for Success
Use filtered water for the cleanest taste.
For decaf or caffeine-free versions, choose herbal blends like chamomile, mint, or hibiscus.
Make a tea concentrate by doubling the tea-to-water ratio. Store the concentrate and dilute with water or sparkling water when serving.
