Make homemade playdough with simple ingredients like flour, salt, water, and oil for a soft, long-lasting, and fun sensory activity. Customize it with colors, scents, or textures, and store it in an airtight container for weeks of creative play!
Mix Dry Ingredients – In a medium saucepan, whisk together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
Add Wet Ingredients – Stir in the vegetable oil and water. If using food coloring, add it now for uniform color.
Cook the Dough – Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring continuously. The mixture will start to thicken. Keep stirring until it forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. This should take about 3–5 minutes.
Cool & Knead – Remove the dough from the pan and let it cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, knead it for a few minutes until smooth. If adding essential oils, knead them in now.
