Ingredients

  • 3 pork shoulder (up to 4 lbs) or pork butt
  • 1 can 12 oz Coca-Cola
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce or your favorite store brand

Instructions

Prep the pork

  • Place the pork shoulder in the crockpot. No need to trim much—fat = flavor here.
  • Mix the sauce
  • In a bowl, whisk together Coca-Cola and barbecue sauce.

Pour and cook

  • Pour the mixture over the pork.
  • Cook on:
  • LOW for 6–8 hours, or
  • HIGH for 4–5 hours

Shred

  • Remove pork and shred with two forks. It should fall apart easily.

Finish the sauce

  • Skim excess fat from the liquid if needed. Return shredded pork to the crockpot and toss in the sauce.

Let it soak (optional but worth it)

  • Cook another 20–30 minutes on low so everything soaks up that flavor.

Notes

  • Use Dr Pepper or root beer for a slightly different twist
  • Add a splash of liquid smoke for a BBQ pit vibe
  • Freeze leftovers in portions for easy meals
  • Serve on buns, over baked potatoes, or in tacos
