Cook Time 8 hours
Thickening (Lid Off) 2 hours
Course crockpot
Cuisine American
Servings 3 pints

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 9 cups apples peeled, cored, and sliced (I like a mix of Sweet + soft: Fuji apples, Gala apples, Golden Delicious apples and Tart + flavorful: Granny Smith apples, Jonathan apples)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Add apples to the crockpot.
  • Sprinkle sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt over the top.
  • Stir to coat the apples evenly.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 8–10 hours
  • (or HIGH for 4–5 hours), stirring occasionally if you can.
  • Once apples are very soft, mash or blend until smooth.
  • Leave the lid slightly ajar and cook another 1–2 hours on LOW to thicken.

Notes

The longer it cooks, the deeper the flavor gets
If it’s too thick, add a splash of water or apple juice
If it’s too thin, keep cooking uncovered
