Stuffing Seasoning Mix Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 1 teaspoon salt can be omitted
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- pinch nutmeg
Instructions
- Homemade Stuffing or Dressing
- 8 cups of stale bread cubes (white or whole wheat)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 cup of diced onions
- 2 teaspoons of the homemade stuffing seasoning mix
- 2 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
- Saute the Vegetables: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions and celery and sauté until they become soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the Seasoning: Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of the homemade stuffing seasoning mix over the sautéed vegetables. Adjust the amount to your taste preferences, and you can always add more later if needed.
- Combine with Bread Cubes: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed vegetable mixture with the stale bread cubes. Moisten with Broth: Pour 2 cups of chicken or vegetable broth over the mixture. The amount of broth can vary depending on how moist you like your stuffing. The bread should be moist but not soggy.
- Season with Salt and Pepper: Taste the stuffing and season with salt and pepper according to your preference.
- Baking Option: If you choose to bake the stuffing separately, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the stuffing mixture in a greased baking dish, cover it with foil, and bake for about 30-40 minutes or until it’s heated through and slightly crispy on top. Remove the foil for the last 10-15 minutes to achieve a golden, crispy crust.
