  • ½ Cup unsalted Butter cubed and very cold
  • 1 ¾ Cups All-purpose Flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 ½ tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 tbsp fresh Jalapeño Peppers finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Cup Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • ½ Cup cold Buttermilk plus 1 tbsp for brushing
  • 6 Jalapeño slices for topping (optional)


  • Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper or butter a cast-iron skillet.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour and cold cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or fork to blend until coarse crumbs form.
  • Stir in salt, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, and chopped jalapeños. Gently mix in ½ cup of cold buttermilk with a spatula.
  • Add shredded cheese to the dough, mixing lightly until just combined. The dough will be crumbly.
  • Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and gently form a rectangle.
  • Fold and flatten the dough a few times, then roll out to about ½-3/4 inch thick. Cut into 2-3 inch biscuits, reworking scraps as needed.

  • Brush with the remaining buttermilk and bake for 20-23 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and brush with melted butter. Serve warm.
